How to Build Your Bouquet
Six core steps that apply to any bouquet. The vase video follows these in a vase; the premium video uses the same foundation, then wraps it in paper for gifting.
Fill a clean vase about two-thirds full with cool water and stir in your flower food. Starting with fresh, clean water is the single biggest thing you can do to make your blooms last longer.
Cut each stem at a 45-degree angle, about an inch from the bottom, and strip away any leaves that would sit below the waterline. The angled cut helps each flower drink, and clean stems keep your water fresh.
Start with your greens and filler to create a loose grid across the mouth of the vase. This is your foundation — it gives your focal flowers something to rest against and holds everything in place.
Place your largest blooms — like roses — first, turning the vase as you go so they're balanced from every angle. Vary the heights slightly so the arrangement feels natural rather than flat.
Tuck in your supporting flowers — lilies, spray roses, or seasonal accents — to fill the spaces between your focal flowers. Cluster a few together for impact rather than spacing them evenly.
Add delicate touches like baby's breath to soften the edges, then step back and fill any gaps. Keep your bouquet out of direct sun, refresh the water every couple of days, and enjoy!
Your Bouquet Toolkit
Everything in this list comes ready to go in our DIY Floral Kits — or gather your own to follow along.
3–4 statement blooms like roses or garden roses — the stars of your arrangement.
2–3 supporting flowers such as lilies or spray roses to add depth and movement.
Eucalyptus, ruscus, or baby's breath to build your base and soften the edges.
Clean floral shears or scissors for angled cuts that help your flowers drink.
Any vessel you love. Our Premium and Couples kits include a glass vase.
A packet of flower food keeps your blooms fresh and vibrant for days longer.
Pro Tips for a Pro Result
Rotate your vase constantly so your bouquet looks full and balanced from every side — not just the front.
Keep some blooms taller and tuck others lower. A little height variation makes an arrangement feel lush and intentional.
Group a few of the same flower together rather than spacing them evenly. Clusters read as designer; scattered reads as random.
Change the water every two to three days and re-snip the stems to double how long your bouquet stays beautiful.
